Letter from the Universal House of Justice(Bahá'í Governing Body) regarding African Americans

Several adjustments to our operations will take effect beginning in July 2010.
The BMG Coordinating Group has taken several decisions that are designed to
add capacity and reinforce the current plans outlined for the world-wide
Bahá'í Community by the Universal House of Justice. The number of local Black
Men's Gatherings in the United States has grown at a rate that is beyond our
ability to maintain a cohesive standard and in a number of clusters local
Gatherings have become a hindrance unfortunately even competing with the
cluster's development at times.

For these reasons we will now have six regionally based Black Men's Gatherings
across the country. Dates will be announced for the Northeast at Teaneck, NJ;
the Midwest at LouHelen in Michigan; West Coast at Oakland CA; Southeast in
Triangle Area NC; Southwest at Dallas TX; and the longstanding BMG at Green
Acre in Maine. Any of you are welcome to participate in any of them...

About the Gathering

"Every year for the past eight years, usually during the last week of July, a group of Bahá'í men who are Black have been convening in an isolated spot in South Carolina. The place is the Louis G. Gregory Bahá'í Institute, a small compound of aging buildings surrounded by a forest of scrub pines. The Institute hosts a wide range of Bahá'í activities year-round by primarily serves as one the area's most recognized community service agencies. For these men, however, some of whom have traveled from as far away as British Columbia, California, and the Caribbean Islands, this has become a sacred spot, a holy place, a spiritual home.
